Carlos Alcaraz was again not at his best earlier today, but still had more than enough to secure his spot in the Japan Open semi-finals.
That being said, his task was made much easier when Denis Shapovalov, his opponent, pulled up injured at the back end of the first set.
Having tried to persist into the second, just three games in, he decided enough was enough and approached the net to offer a premature handshake.
In securing this victory, Alcaraz sent a heartfelt message to Shapovalov before heading over to the press, where he revealed his game plan for his upcoming opponent.
Carlos Alcaraz reveals game plan for match vs Jaume Munar
Whatever happens tomorrow, we are guaranteed to have a Spaniard in the Japan Open final.
After all, the seven-time Grand Slam champion will face Jaume Munar in what will be their first meeting in over a year.
Do you believe that Alexander Zverev will win Grand Slams in 2027 with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz back?
Chatting with reporters, he was asked about the reason behind his continuous changing his positioning on returns.
Carlos Alcaraz claimed it was done ‘to make the opponent think and not let them settle into a comfortable stance.’
Then, asked how he plans to approach this in his match vs Munar, he promised: “I’ll go aggressive.”
Jaume Munar and Rafael Nadal are the only two Spaniards to have ever beaten Carlos Alcaraz
Whilst Alcaraz will certainly be the favourite, Munar cannot be discounted.
After all, not only has he enjoyed an outstanding run in Tokyo thus far, but he actually has form for beating the 23-year-old in the past as well.

Interestingly, he is one of only two Spaniards to have ever beaten Alcaraz, doing so at the Marbella Open in 2021.
The other, unsurprisingly, is Rafael Nadal, who overcame the seven-time Grand Slam champion twice.
Those who have tried and failed are Albert Ramos, Bernabé Zapata, Roberto Bautista, Pablo Carreño, Alejandro Davidovich, Feliciano López, Roberto Carballés and Pedro Martínez.
Alcaraz has beaten Munar three times since that meeting.
