George Staines won a UFC contract by stopping Loai Abushaar on Dana White’s “Contender Series” last week in Las Vegas, pushing the undefeated Englishman to 11-0 with four finishes. Staines trains with UFC lightweight superstar Paddy Pimblett and “The Baddy” was on hand to help Staines slim down to the lightweight limit.
If you thought cutting weight while starving in a boiling bathtub was torture, try doing it while your teammate gobbles down a gooey slice of pepperoni pizza.

“That American Dr. Pepper just hits different,” the soda-slurping Pimblett said after the fight. “I’m feeling great lad, I’m on top of the world after George has done that, that was sick. First KO slam knockout in Dana White’s ‘Contender Series’ history and it’s what, Season 10? I told him, you’ll always be slower than me lad, you’ll always be slower.”
Don’t expect Pimblett and Staines to cross paths if and when Staines climbs the 155-pound ranks because teammates who train together maintain that close-knit bond and never turn on one another for the sake of a UFC title shot.
