As reported by multiple media outlets, UFC 336 in January 2027 could feature two massive welterweight matchups.
According to rumours, in the main event, reigning 170-pound champion Islam Makhachev will defend his title against top contender Carlos Prates. Prates believes the fight will happen in January, and even Makhachev has shown interest in fighting “The Nightmare” next before Ramadan 2027, as discussed before on LowKick MMA.
Meanwhile, Bruce Buffer most recently confirmed during a candid chat with N3On that he’s heard the UFC is trying to book Makhachev vs. Prates. Earlier today, reporter Álvaro Colmenero also said that Makhachev vs. Prates is being discussed as a potential matchup for UFC 336.

Also, as per rumours, in the co-main event of UFC 336, Shavkat Rakhmonov, who has not fought in nearly 2 years due to back-to-back serious knee injuries, will return to the octagon to take on undefeated knockout artist Michael Morales.
Rakhmonov has resumed training, as clips circulating online suggest, and Morales has also hinted at locking horns with “Nomad” next year. Morales recently said:
” Islam, if you prefer Prates because you prefer an easy fighter, I have mine for 2027. The final boss of this division. Shavkat Rakhmonov.:

Previous reports have also suggested that Rakhmonov will be ready to compete early next year.
If the rumours turn out to be true, a potential matchup between undefeated contenders Shavkat Rakhmonov and Michael Morales could determine the next welterweight title challenger on the very same night champion Islam Makhachev defends his 170-pound title against Carlos Prates.
