A former UFC star has called out Rico Verhoeven for a fight on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua.
Verhoeven, back in May, earlier this year, shook up the boxing world and became an instant hit when he gave Oleksandr Usyk a run for his money in their title fight.
The Dutchman, in fact, was leading on one of the judges’ scorecards when he lost via TKO in the 11th round.
It was also his only second professional boxing fight. Now a former UFC heavyweight, who also happens to be his countryman, has asked him to ‘stop hiding’.
The fighter in question is Alistair Overeem. Taking to Instagram Stories, the 46-year-old wrote:
@ricoverhoeven…stop hiding. Let’s make history.
Sources have also claimed that Overeem’s team have been keen to make this fight happen.

A couple of months ago, Overeem had expressed his desire to return to combat sports; this time to boxing. In an interview with Playbook Boxing YouTube and Betway, ‘The Reem’ named Francis Ngannou and Verhoeven as potential opponents.
Have Rico Verhoeven and Alistair Overeem Fought Against Each Other Before?
Having been in the kickboxing circuit for several years, a casual fan would have expected Rico Verhoeven and Alistair Overeem to have fought against each other at least once before. But that’s not been the case.
At GLORY Collision 3, back in October 2021, the two were scheduled to fight for the heavyweight kickboxing title. However, the fight never came to fruition since Overeem withdrew due to an injury.
A year later, at GLORY Collision 4, following his victory over Badr Hari, Overeem faced off against Verhoeven in the ring, only for the fight to once again not happen.
Now, 4 years later, Overeem is targeting a fight against the 37-year-old in a different combat sport.
