A trading card collector says their 104-card PSA submission worth more than $100,000 was stolen from a FedEx vehicle, with other customers also reporting affected orders.

PSA authenticates and grades collectible cards before sealing them in protective holders. The stolen items were being transported after leaving the company’s Southern California facility, according to an email posted by an affected customer.

On October 17, card creator SKY-B said PSA had contacted them about their missing submission. “Over $100,000 in cards just gone,” they wrote.

“We will compensate you for the items from your order that were involved, which is based on fair market value up to the Maximum Insured Value (“MIV”) you selected for each item.” @natsturner, I pray you handle this and take care of everyone affected in the most professional… pic.twitter.com/2U3zp6lYR5

PSA deactivates stolen cards’ certificates and outlines compensation

SKY-B subsequently published screenshots of PSA’s email, which described what happened to the shipment.

“After leaving our PSA facility in Southern California, a FedEx vehicle transporting PSA orders was burglarized, and items were stolen,” the message read.

PSA said it had deactivated certificates associated with the stolen items and alerted selling platforms and auction partners. It also said it was working with FedEx and law enforcement to support investigations and help recover the cards.

Other collectors have described receiving similar notifications. On Reddit, one customer reported losing a PSA 9 Smaug the Magnificent card from Magic: The Gathering.

The owner said they had traveled to a card convention in Miami to submit it directly to PSA because they did not trust sending it through the mail.

In the same thread, another customer reported a stolen serialized Yu-Gi-Oh card numbered 95/100, while a separate commenter said their Pikachu card was affected. Those accounts have not been independently verified.

The email shared by SKY-B said PSA would compensate customers based on fair market value, capped at the Maximum Insured Value selected for each item. It said customers would receive further information the following week.

SKY-B expressed concern about how PSA would calculate those values. PSA’s published FAQ explains that customers’ Maximum Insured Value establishes the limit for shipping insurance and related claims.

The publicly shared emails do not specify the burglary’s exact date or location, the number of affected orders, or the total value of the stolen items.
