Titleist has teamed up with master craftsman and Mr. Wedge himself Bob Vokey for the limited release Vokey Signature 60M wedge. The special offering is inspired by Voke’s original M Grind.
Vokey’s personal favorite wedge grind features heel, toe, and trailing edge relief to provide versatility on all sorts of different wedge shots. The new Signature 60M is a re-creation of the original M Grind.
“When I first started, there were not too many grinds, mostly full-sole wedges,” explained Bob Vokey. “The only grinds were pretty basic. Players would want material ground off the heel, or they’d take the trailing edge off or reduce bounce in the toe. Those were the grinds.”
“I think M Grind is Bob’s best work,” said Vokey Tour Rep Aaron Dill. “It gives you the best of both worlds. It has the bounce you need to hit square-face shots and a shape that allows you to open up the face around the green.”
The Vokey Signature 60M, available now, comes with a Golf Pride BCT Cord grip with Vokey’s signed initials as well as a BV Signature Series shaft band. It also comes with a bag tag signifying that it is one of 1,000 made.
Vokey spoke about how he created the original M Grind. He explained: “When I first started, there were not too many grinds, mostly full-sole wedges. The only grinds were pretty basic. Players would want material ground off the heel, or they’d take the trailing edge off or reduce bounce in the toe. Those were the grinds.”
News of Voke’s work spread pretty quickly across elite players. “I noticed that when I would do something for one player, next thing you know, another player would come up to me and say, ‘Hey Voke, I just playing with so-and-so, could you make me a wedge just like he’s playing with?’”
The surge of players using his wedges began with the M Grind. “It was the M Grind. That was the first one that really did get it going. And the one that I could say started it all, because from the M, there’s a lot of variations of the M Grind that gives the other grinds that we have in the line right now.”
The Vokey Signature 60M is finished in slate blue and comes fitted with a Project X wedge shaft. The retail price is $399, and the wedge is available via Titleist’s official website.
