UFC star Sean O’Malley believes Song Yadong has the skills necessary to defeat Merab Dvalishvili in a future fight.
The bantamweight division is pretty fascinating right now in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Petr Yan is the champion, Sean O’Malley is in the running for a title shot, and Song Yadong is as close to a title opportunity as he ever has been courtesy of his knockout win over Umar Nurmagomedov.

Unfortunately, given the star power of O’Malley, there’s a good chance Song Yadong won’t get the call for the next crack at the belt. However, there are still some pretty interesting options out there for him at 135 pounds.
In a recent podcast, Sean O’Malley had his say on a possible Merab Dvalishvili vs Song Yadong encounter and the state of the division as a whole.

“Merab was getting in on those takedowns (vs. Yan) for the first 10 minutes,” O’Malley said in an interview with Bradley Martyn. “Not getting takedowns, but he was getting into his waist, dragging him to the mat, Petr was having to scramble. But then, as the fight went on, Petr’s guard is so – he’s so short, he’s so little, his guard is down here.
“So, when he (Dvalishvili) shoots, it’s easy to defend for him. It was so sick to watch. Merab’s a motherf*cker, but Song Yadong could beat Merab, too. Song is the same size as those little f*ckers, and he’s explosive as f*ck. He’s hard to take down, he hits hard. If Song and Merab fight next, Song could definitely win.”
