World of Warcraft appears to have made a comical reference to Twitch streamer and YouTuber Jason “Thor” Hall, popularly known as “Pirate Software,” and Zack “Asmongold” has shared his thoughts on the situation. On October 30, 2026, World of Warcraft Forever released the second episode of Planet Azeroth via IGN’s official YouTube channel.
At the one-minute-16-second mark of the video, Booty Bay, one of the most iconic zones in World of Warcraft, was introduced. Bill Bailey, the video narrator, made a reference to “pirates” present in the zone by saying:
“Here, you’ll find goblins, gankers, and pirates. And to be clear, when I say pirates, I’m referencing the swashbuckling kind, rather than the type that goes soft and abandons you to be mauled when the situation gets dire.”
For context, Pirate Software made headlines last year, in January 2025, when his actions during the Dire Maul North dungeon progression in World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore went viral. The former Blizzard employee decided to run away when several mobs attacked the party, resulting in the deaths of two OnlyFangs guild members, Snupy and Sara.
When Jason was confronted for his actions, he responded:
“What are you talking about, why I’m walking? You see my mana? What am I supposed to do?”
During a livestream on October 30, 2026, Asmongold burst out laughing after seeing World of Warcraft seemingly make a comical reference to Pirate Software. He said:
“‘Blizzard made a joke about Pirate Software.’ No way! No way. I’m sorry, I know this is, like, really serious. But this is also… ‘World of Warcraft making a comical Pirate Software reference in the official video.’ No way! I love it. I hope Thor does, too. I do. I hope he takes it in stride. This is so funny. He has actually become a meme.”

Twitch streamer Chance “Sodapoppin” has also commented on World of Warcraft’s apparent reference to the 2025 Pirate Software drama. The co-owner of OTK (One True King) started laughing after hearing the aforementioned statement in the second episode of Planet Azeroth, and said:
“Oh, that’s crafty. Oh, that’s crafty! ‘When it gets dire.’ Shut the **** up!”
As of this writing, Pirate Software has not responded to World of Warcraft making an apparent comical reference to him.
