Sean Brady recently shed light on the injury that forced him to withdraw from his upcoming UFC fight.
Brady was scheduled to headline UFC Vegas 124 against Gabriel Bonfim on November 7 at the META APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, earlier this week, news emerged that the 33-year-old had been forced to withdraw from the Fight Night event due to an injury that was initially left undisclosed, leaving Bonfim without an opponent.
During a recent episode of his The BradyBags Show, Brady opened up about the circumstances surrounding his injury. He revealed that his knee began swelling after he rode a stationary bike at the gym a couple of weeks before the scheduled fight.
By that evening, the pain and swelling had become so severe that he could barely walk. The welterweight contender decided to visit a hospital the following morning for a medical evaluation, where examinations revealed that he was suffering from a serious staph infection.
“I got to the hospital, and they start drawing blood, doing everything. They put me on IV antibiotics, Brady said. “They have to wait for bacteria to grow, so it takes like two days for it to grow. So, I had to obviously stay in the hospital. I was there for three days. But it started to come back that it was growing staph.”
Following Sean Brady’s withdrawal from UFC Vegas 124, the promotion announced a new headliner for the event, with heavyweights Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Johnny Walker set to collide in the main event. However, it remains unclear whether Brady’s original matchup will be rescheduled for a future date or if Bonfim will be offered a new opponent before the end of the year.
Alexander Volkanovski And Others Send Support To Sean Brady After Staph Infection
On Friday, Sean Brady took to Instagram to share graphic images of his swollen knee undergoing a drainage procedure. The photos showed a syringe filled with reddish-orange fluid extracted from the infected area, offering a disturbing look at the severity of his staph infection.
The Philadelphia native’s post drew responses from several prominent UFC fighters, including reigning featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and middleweight contender Brendan Allen. Many offered words of encouragement and wished Brady a speedy recovery.
Volkanovski wrote:
“Damn that staph got nasty. Hope you well brother.”
Allen commented:
“Hope u have a speedy recovery”

Brady last competed at UFC 328 in May, where he earned a unanimous decision victory over Joaquin Buckley to bounce back from a brutal knockout defeat against Michael Morales at UFC 322 last year. He currently holds a 9-2 record inside the Octagon and a 19-2 professional record overall.
