Los Angeles Lakers star Sandro Mamukelashvili says the perception of teammate Luka Doncic is wrong.
Luka Doncic had another incredible night for the LA Lakers, scoring 45 points in their victory over the Toronto Raptors.
It continues his incredible scoring streak, with 37 points or more across each of the past four games he has played. Doncic is averaging 36.2 ppg across the season as a whole.
Speaking postgame, teammate Sandro Mamukelashvili said that it is wrong for people to say Doncic does not work hard enough defensively.
He explained: “Like a lot of people say, like, oh, he doesn’t [defend]. I don’t agree with that.
“He cares. Sometimes when he knows like the assignment is like one of the really good players, like he even tries him harder.”
He adds that he views Doncic’s work ethic as an inspiration, considering his high-level talent.
“It’s just cool like to see somebody like that who’s gonna like try to hustle on both sides of the floor, and at the same time, it’s such a gift as sport.”

Luka Doncic offense is amazing
While he wanted to note Doncic’s defensive hard work, Mamukelashvili explained that he is still amazed by his offense.
He explained: “Sometimes stuff he does is like unexplainable. One thing you gotta say, he always plays hard. He always like really cares.
“You can’t really like guard him one on one. Like you need three guys to guard him, and it makes our job so much easier, because he’s a willing passer.”
Austin Reaves added 19, but it was center Walker Kessler who was the biggest beneficiary from Doncic, he had 16 points, while contributing 15 rebounds.
Mamukelashvili added 11 of his own, with Collin Sexton scoring 14.
The Lakers moved to 5-2 with the win, and face the 2-4 Miami Heat next.
