It’s fair to say that after their midweek defeat to Como, Lens could do with a positive rebound this weekend. They welcome Marseille to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis for a Ligue 1 match this Sunday.
Marseille are currently above Lens in the table, sitting in 6th with Lens three places below in 9th. However, only two points separate them, meaning they could switch places this weekend.

Lens vs Marseille Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
- These sides have had some mixed results against one another in recent years, with three wins for Lens and three for Marseille in their last six meetings. Most recently, Marseille defeated Lens 3-1 in late January.
- Lens suffered one of the most embarrassing results in UEFA Champions League history this week. They were absolutely thrashed 9-1 by Italian side Como, leaving them stranded in the bottom four of the competition for now at least. Remarkably, six of Como’s goals came in the second half of the game.
- In Ligue 1 action, Lens have actually been in decent enough form, despite losing to Lille last weekend. Prior to that, they’d won three league matches in a row, beating Lyon, Troyes and perhaps most impressively, high-flying Paris FC.
- Marseille also played in Europe this week, beating Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 in the Europa League. The win was, in fact, Marseille’s first European win this season, as prior to that they had suffered three straight defeats.
- Marseille are coming into this match on a fine run of domestic form despite their poor European performances. They have won their last four games in a row, beating Troyes, Angers, Le Havre and Toulouse. Moreover, those four games saw them score 13 goals while only conceding five.
- Despite Lens’ patchy form this season, one man who has performed excellently is veteran attacker Florian Thauvin. He has scored five goals and registered eight assists in 13 games across all competitions, and no other Ligue 1 player has registered more assists.
Lens vs Marseille Prediction
Lens have not been in poor domestic form by any means, and if anything, their recent wins were over tougher opponents than the ones Marseille have beaten recently.
However, any side coming off the back of a horrific defeat like the one Lens suffered to Como this week is likely to be devoid of confidence.
Were they up against a weaker side here, it could be a chance for them to bounce back, but Marseille are one of the tougher Ligue 1 opponents they could possibly face.
Given that midweek loss, then, the prediction is an away win.
