Jackie Young has struggled with her performances lately and hit a new career low in the Las Vegas Aces’ 101-95 loss to the Sparks on Saturday. The guard recorded her second straight scoreless game during the outing, shocking fans with the sudden dip in her performances.
While multiple factors could be highlighted for the guard’s negative run, a fan online shifted the blame to her relationship with DiJonai Carrington.
“I normally could care less which WNBA players are dating which players, but if Carrington broke up with Lys and is dating Jackie, I’m seeing a trend developing,” a fan wrote.
The fan was not alone in that view, as others echoed similar sentiments while reacting to Young’s recent performances. One fan even pointed to NaLyssa Smith’s strong run after her split with Carrington, suggesting a pattern, while also claiming that Carrington’s partners tend to see a dip in form.
However, while many chose to blame Carrington for Young’s dip in form, others believed the comparison was baseless, arguing that her struggles were purely down to her own performances.
Despite Carrington being targeted as a scapegoat, a few fans pointed out that Young may be dealing with personal grief after reportedly losing family members ahead of the season.
While opinions remain divided over the cause of the Aces star’s slump, Carrington is unlikely to be the issue. Young started the season strongly, recording double digits in her first three games, indicating that the forward was not a factor in her form.
However, the guard has struggled in recent outings, recording zero points against the Atlanta Dream last week before repeating that tally on Saturday, marking a career-low stretch. Despite this dip, Young will likely bounce back as the Aces look to retain their WNBA title.
Las Vegas Aces coach highlights a possible reason behind Jackie Young’s scoring slump
Jackie Young remains one of the most important players on the Las Vegas Aces roster. However, the guard has failed to score in each of her team’s last two games, raising questions about her sudden dip in performance.
During the postgame interview, coach Becky Hammon addressed Young’s scoring slump while pointing to a possible reason behind it.
“I mean, we know she’s playing with a heavy heart,” Hammon said. “Basketball-wise, she probably hasn’t gotten off to the start she wanted. However, we’re going to give her every support system we possibly can.
“The reason she actually played a little less tonight was because of foul trouble, not anything else. I don’t care that she’s not scoring.”
Young reportedly lost two family members during the offseason but has continued to feature in all of the Aces’ games, highlighting her resilience and determination.
