Mirra Andreeva has leapt over the Grand Slam hurdle.

Andreeva, 19, defeated Maja Chwalinska on Saturday afternoon to claim her first Grand Slam singles title at Roland Garros.

The Russian achieved what her coach, Conchita Martinez, could not during her own career.

Martinez, a Wimbledon champion, reached the 2000 Roland Garros final before losing to Mary Pierce.

It was also an impressive week for Maja Chwalinska, who became only the second qualifier in tennis history to reach a Grand Slam final.

With Andreeva and Chwalinska’s efforts noted, how have their rankings been impacted?

Mirra Andreeva and Maja Chwalinska rise up the rankings

Following her triumph in Paris, Mirra Andreeva has risen two spots in the WTA rankings to world number six.

Andreeva has increased her ranking points total to 5,751. This rise has seen her overtake Coco Gauff and Elina Svitolina in the WTA rankings.

Gauff, the 2025 Roland Garros champion, surrendered 1,870 ranking points after losing in the third round of this year’s event to Anastasia Potapova.

Svitolina has fallen one spot to world number eight, despite defending all of her Roland Garros points from 2025.

Jessica Pegula and Amanda Anisimova, who both suffered early exits in Paris, have also seen their rankings increase.

Pegula has risen one spot to world number four, while Anisimova has risen one place to number five.

As for Maja Chwalinska, the new Polish star is set to rise an astonishing 93 places in the WTA rankings – to world number 21 – following her run to the final in Paris.

Despite Chwalinska’s stunning rise up the rankings, she may have to compete in the qualifying rounds at Wimbledon.

This is because Chwalinska was ranked outside the top 100 at the time of the Wimbledon entry list cut-off.

Chwalinska has admitted that she does not expect to receive a wildcard for the event. However, Tim Henman has said there is a ‘pretty good chance’.

Mirra Andreeva’s WTA debut

Andreeva made her WTA debut at the 2023 Madrid Open after receiving a wildcard into the main draw.

The Russian, only 15 years old, stunned 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez, winning 6-3, 6-4.

With victory, Andreeva became the third youngest player to win a main-draw match at a WTA 1000 tournament, behind only Coco Gauff and CiCi Bellis.

“It was really tough match for me and just tried to give my best and to play every point,” said Andreeva after the match, as reported by Reuters.

“I’m extremely happy with my level today.”

Andreeva’s fine form continued – she defeated 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia and 17th seed Magda Linette to reach the fourth round.

Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, defeated Andreeva 6-3, 6-1 in the fourth round.

“Yeah, she’s playing really well,” Sabalenka said of Andreeva during her post-match press conference.

“She’s already beat a lot of good players, playing really well on clay. I’m really looking forward for this match, and I will prepare myself as good as I can.”
