Crimson Desert players have been loving the stream of constant updates that developers Pearl Abyss have been making since launch, and don’t expect them to slow down any time soon.
The open-world action-adventure launched to mixed reviews, but the community is in agreement that things have only continued to improve since launch. The devs have been tackling the biggest criticisms with improved traversal, increased storage, combat and difficulty changes, controller remapping, and more cats.
The devs have announced all the changes coming until September, including “story improvements,” cross-save, and new combat-focused content. But it’s far from ending there.
Speaking to Dexerto at Summer Game Fest, Will Powers, Pearl Abyss’ PR & Marketing Director, said they will keep updating the game “as long as there’s demand for it.”
Crimson Desert updates will continue as long as there’s demand
Pearl Abyss come from an MMO background, and they’ve been treating Crimson Desert’s post-launch like one. “This is a model that gamers aren’t used to, of a premium game giving consistent and free content post-launch,” said Powers.
Speaking from a marketing perspective, he explained that, “if I want to promote the game, a great way to do that is to have a sustained player base and constantly be high up on the Steam charts.”
“Having continued support and continued content both rewards your community and the people that have invested time in it, as well as doing free marketing without having to spend it elsewhere,” he continued. “So you’re spending it on adding more content to the game instead of spending it on advertising.”
While he said it’s “a different form of advertising,” it’s also “a way of paying back the community directly.”
“Without the community, there is no Black Desert. Without Black Desert, there is no Crimson Desert. So the whole goal of the company is to take care of the community, because without them, there is no company. We live and die by our fans.”
Beyond September, the only thing we know about is an “upcoming DLC.” While Parker couldn’t provide any more details, he said the term “DLC” means it will be “substantially different from what we have done previously.”
