While Solarpunk might be an open-world Crafting Survival game, it’s starkly different from a lot of other similar games since it locks your exploration quite a lot. This mainly happens because the game is divided into multiple small sky islands, and you have to upgrade your Airship often to explore them.

To do that, you’ll have to be in constant trade with the Tradebot, and farming is one of your main sources for the items required here. While farming in this game is fairly straightforward, it’s important to make it as efficient as possible if you want to progress quickly and get to the end.

Solarpunk is in Early Access at the moment, and the content of this article is subject to change.

How To Farm In Solarpunk

Farming is one of the basic parts of Solarpunk, which means that you can unlock it very early in the game. All you have to do is craft a Hoe from the crafting menu using three sticks and two stones. Sticks can be made out of wood while stone can either be picked up on the ground or mined at various stone nodes.

Once you have a Hoe, put it on your hot bar at the bottom and equip it to see a blue highlight for a farming plot that you can create. This can be created anywhere as long as the land isn’t too steep. Once a farming plot is created, you can plant your seeds in it and water it constantly until your crop is ready.

If it’s raining, you won’t need to water your crops since they’ll automatically get watered.

However, storms can also damage your grown crops, so it’s important to pick them up as soon as possible.

The day and night cycle doesn’t affect your crop growth in this game. As long as they’re watered, they’ll grow in a set amount of time.

Solarpunk: Where To Get Food And Water

If you want to keep up your food and water in Solarpunk, you’ll have to look at different types of food while also boiling your water.

How To Get Crop Seeds

The seed system in Solarpunk is very easy but also quite limited. To get a seed for a certain crop, you simply have to pick it up in the open world. Each crop you pick gives you one seed, and when you harvest the farm plot, it also returns that seed. However, there’s no way to multiply your seeds.

This limits the number of crops you can have for each type until you pick up more in the open world. Unfortunately, these crops don’t respawn, and if you want to get more seeds, you’ll just have to progress to further islands. Berries, watermelon, wheat, and cotton will be some of your earliest seeds.

How To Automate Farming

Solarpunk automated farming with sprinklers.

One of the initial challenges that you’ll face while farming in Solarpunk is keeping your crops watered when it doesn’t rain often. You’ll constantly be visiting new islands in your playthrough, but if the plot goes dry while you’re out, the crop stops growing. Thankfully, this can be fixed when you trade watermelons with the trader.

This gives you the first set of sprinklers, with the recipe also unlocking after you get electric items. These sprinklers can keep your crops watered as long as they have power. To maximize your watering with the sprinkler, it’s recommended to place your plots in the shape of a hashtag. This lets you place one sprinkler in the middle and water them all.

Solarpunk: Where To Get Silicon

If you want to unlock some blueprints from the trader, you’ll have to give him some Silicon after finding it in these places.
