The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim Lightweight champion was booked Sunday evening (June 21, 2026) on a misdemeanor “Public Drunk” charge, according to TMZ Sports. “The Diamond” was booked at 6:38 p.m. ET and released a few hours later, around 10:15 p.m. ET.
Poirier made his initial court appearance earlier today (Mon., June 22, 2026), though the exact circumstances surrounding his arrest remain unclear at this time.

Shortly after news of the arrest surfaced, Poirier appeared to address the situation on Instagram.
“Love you all,” Poirier wrote. “I’m working on myself.”
The 37-year-old recently retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) following his final fight against Max Holloway at UFC 318 in July 2025 (watch highlights). Poirier walked away as one of the most beloved action fighters of his generation, compiling a 30-10 record with one “No Contest” while scoring massive wins over Holloway, Conor McGregor (twice), Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler.
For what it’s worth, Ben Askren revealed that Poirier was “having a good time at the Airport” and wrestled some of Askren’s friends before his arrest.
Public drunkenness in Georgia can carry a fine and possible jail time if convicted.
