Serena Williams is back at Wimbledon.

Williams has received a wildcard for the Grand Slam in London, where qualifying is now underway for the main draw.

She recently made her comeback to the WTA Tour after almost four years away, returning at Queen’s earlier this month.

Williams played doubles with Victoria Mboko, with the pair winning their opening match before the Canadian was forced to retire from the event due to injury.

The American icon then played doubles with Karolina Muchova at the Berlin Open, but the pair lost their opener in Germany.

Williams will also play doubles at Wimbledon with her sister Venus Williams, but she is in the singles draw too, ahead of which she has adopted an uncharacteristic preparation method.

How far will Serena Williams and Venus Williams go at Wimbledon?

They’ve won six Wimbledon doubles titles together…

Serena Williams uses uncharacteristic preparation method for Wimbledon

Williams has already arrived at the All England Club, where she just carried out a training session with fellow WTA player Maria Sakkari.

And that is significant as the legendary figure did not often train with other players at tournaments throughout her career.

But while it is certainly unusual for her, it looks set to be a very wise move given that she has not played a singles match since the 2022 US Open.

Notably, training with a rival at any level should pay dividends, but Sakkari’s athleticism and aggression will have provided a real test for Williams.

And there was even an interesting spectator for her practise at the All England Club, with her compatriot Ben Shelton watching from the sidelines.

Remarkably, the ATP superstar was born a few months after Williams claimed her first Wimbledon singles title in 2002.

Serena Williams given big chance at Wimbledon redemption

While the 44-year-old has nothing to prove, particularly at Wimbledon, Williams will be doing all she can to succeed.

The WTA superstar bowed out in disappointing circumstances last time out, losing her opening match at Wimbledon in 2022, when she was also a wildcard.

Playing on Centre Court, the seven-time champion was beaten 5-7, 6-1, 6-7 by her French opponent Harmony Tan.

She recovered by reaching the third round of the US Open later in the year, but Williams now has a chance at redemption in London.

Of course, much of the attention will focus on her doubles appearance with Venus, which may just take some of the pressure off her singles campaign.

But her dramatic return has already turned many heads, and the noise is only going to grow in intensity as her first match at the Grand Slam approaches.

It remains to be seen what level the veteran can reach at SW19, but seven singles titles, six doubles titles and one mixed doubles title suggest she can hit the ground running.
