Hiroshi Tanahashi recently spoke about the new ownership of NJPW. He revealed how the promotion is planning to grow under its new leadership, now that it is moving towards a new era.

Earlier, NJPW was owned by Bushiroad. However, as of today, the company’s ownership has been transferred to Cyber Agent and TV Asahi. Following this major shift in ownership, NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi issued a public statement addressing all the questions among the fans.

NJPW posted a video featuring Tanahashi, where he praised TV Asahi for recognizing the grit and passion of NJPW. He added that he is looking forward to presenting New Japan Pro-Wrestling under this new direction. Hiroshi also revealed that STARDOM is no longer a part of NJPW’s parent company. But still, the two promotions will continue to have collaborations down the line.

“This is Tanahashi, president of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. As previously announced, yesterday, June 30, all shares held by Bushiroad were transferred to TV Asahi and CyberAgent, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling has become a consolidated subsidiary of TV Asahi. TV Asahi has recognized New Japan’s tradition of producing numerous star wrestlers and nurturing new talent,” said Tanahashi.

Hiroshi Tanahashi made his return to AEW last week

Hiroshi Tanahashi made an appearance last week at the AEW Forbidden Door pay-per-view. He came to save the day for Shota Umino, who was involved in a tense face-off with Death Riders. Tanahashi came to the ring to fend off Jon Moxley and his faction before endorsing Umino in the ring.

Shota Umino squared off with PAC in an IWGP Global Heavyweight Title match. He seized a dominant win over the Death Rider following a banger match. After the showdown, Jon Moxley came to the ring to have an intense face-off with Umino. But as Tanahashi made his way to the squared circle, Death Riders had no choice but to retreat.

After that, the NJPW Icon put the championship on Shota Umino’s waist as a sign of respect. Tanahashi even raised his hand to signal that Umino is the future of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. It was a heartfelt moment for the fans who have been following his journey for the past few years.
