Mirra Andreeva was unable to back up her Roland Garros success after suffering an early Wimbledon exit.

Andreeva was beaten by Barbora Krejcikova, the former Wimbledon champion, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a defeat where she was clearly frustrated.

These feelings of frustration shifted in the press conference, where Andreeva was emotional when reflecting on her exit.

There has been a big reaction to Andreeva’s press conference, with former Wimbledon semi-finalist Tim Henman also commenting on it.

Tim Henman reacts to Mirra Andreeva being emotional in Wimbledon defeat

Henman saw Andreeva’s press conference on the BBC’s coverage of Wimbledon, where he admitted that he found it a difficult watch seeing the 19-year-old so upset.

“It’s so tough to see that,” said Henman. “The emotion after such a difficult defeat on Centre Court, you can see how much it means to her.

“Roland Garros was incredible, she is an amazing talent. We have been hoping and expecting her to come through and then just three weeks later it’s that bitter disappointment.

“It’s so difficult to see when she is so young in front of the cameras. On the one hand I think it’s a great strength of our sport we have a commitment to speak to the media, if you are requested after the match, you do your media.

“However, when you see something like that it’s very difficult to watch and you wonder if she could have taken some time to gather her emotions because nobody wants to see a young player crying in front of the media.”

What will happen to Mirra Andreeva’s ranking after her Wimbledon defeat?

Andreeva won Roland Garros last month and therefore rose back up the rankings.

After losing in the second round of Wimbledon, Andreeva will drop 360 points, but she may not actually fall down the rankings.

Instead, Andreeva is currently forecast to reach a new career-high of world number four in the live rankings, with both Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova dropping a significant number of points due to their runs to the final at Wimbledon last year.

Whether she will remain in this position depends on other results at Wimbledon, with Coco Gauff, Swiatek, Anisimova and Karolina Muchova still able to overtake Andreeva before the rankings next update.

Andreeva will now switch her attention to the North American hard court swing, with both the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open taking place before the US Open.
