Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is out today, and judging from the pre-release reviews, it’s the kind of win that Ubisoft needs right now. So, going into launch day with positive reviews should mean that everything is smooth sailing (ha) now, right?
Of course not, because this is an Ubisoft release, which means there are some very unpopular monetisation practices at play. In fact, players are so angry with the DLC this time around that they’re leaving negative reviews, clearly having had enough of this trend.
Assassin’s Creed Fans Are Furious Over All The DLC In Black Flag Resynced
At the time of writing, reviews for the game are mixed. That’s a step up from a few hours ago, when players spotted that they were mostly negative, but it’s still not the kind of reception you want to launch a widely anticipated game to.
“What’s the point of getting the Deluxe version when, immediately in game, there’s $84.91 worth ‘DLC’ that you don’t own?” reads one of the negative reviews.
“Good job, Ubisoft,” says another player. “DLC that costs more than the game itself AS SOON AS THE GAME LAUNCHES, so it’s content removed from the game and then sold to us again.”
True enough, the Deluxe Edition will give you two of the DLC packs, but not all of them. By my count, there are six DLC packs that are sold separately from the Deluxe Edition, all priced at €9.99, except for one, which is €4.99. These packs are:
- Hellfire Character Pack
- Hellfire Naval Pack
- Sea Serpent Character Pack
- Sea Serpent Naval Pack
- Dragon Storm Character Pack
- Dragon Storm Naval Pack
- Map Pack
Now, if you’ve just put down a fair bit of cash for the pricest version of the game, only to have these sold to you as soon as you boot it up on launch day, that’s certainly going to leave a bad taste in your mouth. Alas, it is largely what we’ve come to expect from Ubisoft now.
There are other complaints in the negative reviews, too. Some take issue with the 30FPS cap during cutscenes. Some say they’ve found a fix for this by messing around with the settings, so hopefully that might not have been an intentional decision by the devs.
These are far from the only controversies surrounding Black Flag Resync’s launch. Earlier today, it was reported that Ubisoft rolled out yet more layoffs, with 51 workers losing their jobs.
