Savannah James might have spoiled LeBron James’ next destination in the NBA. On June 30, the four-time NBA champion announced that he would not be playing his 24th season in a Lakers shirt. James spent seven seasons in a Purple and Gold shirt and brought a championship to LA in 2020.
On Wednesday’s episode of “IRL Angie Martinez” podcast, the four-time NBA champion’s wife asked about her opinion on living in Miami. James revealed that Miami held a special place in her heart.

“I appreciated Miami for what it had to offer me during that time. Going from a young woman to a woman in Miami. I got married there, I got proposed to there. It’s just always a special place for me,” she said.

Later on the podcast, Savannah James gave a detailed callback to the moment LeBron James asked for her hand in marriage on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 2011.
“We were at a New Year’s Eve party… We’re at the party, the countdown happens, we come back and I’m on my phone texting all my people happy new year,” she said. “LeBron is behind me, tapping me on my shoulder, I’m like ‘hold on.’ Now it’s a crowd and somebody says ‘Savannah, turn around!’ I turned around and he was on his knee.”
“Mind you, Miami, it was a time. In that instance I was like ‘oh my god’ so I busted out crying. He did his speech and put the ring on and I said yes….. I had no idea. He got me… It was so fun. Miami was fun!”
LeBron James and his wife have been married for more than a decade now. They have raised three children, with their eldest son, Bronny James, playing for the Lakers in the NBA.
