Karolina Muchova’s Wimbledon campaign came to an abrupt halt at the final hurdle.
Muchova, the 10th seed in south-west London, had defeated the likes of Barbora Krejcikova, Naomi Osaka, and Coco Gauff en route to the final.
However, she came unstuck against 21-year-old Linda Noskova in the championships showpiece.
Noskova, 21, survived a spirited fightback from Muchova to win 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 on Wimbledon Centre Court.

Muchova cut an emotional figure after the contest, describing her performance as one of the ‘worst’ of her Wimbledon campaign.
The Czech star has now posted a message on social media, following Saturday’s defeat.

“I’ll be back. The dream lives on,” Muchova said in a post on social media platform Instagram.
“Thank you to everyone for your incredible support. It means more than you’ll ever know.”
Muchova should take great pride in her performances over the past fortnight.
The Czech, one of the best players on the Tour yet to win a major, defeated some of the biggest names in the sport on her way to the final in London.
If Muchova continues to perform at such a high level, there is no reason why she cannot reach another Grand Slam final in the future.

Following her defeat to Noskova, Muchova will now look ahead to the North American hard-court swing – a section of the calendar that features tournaments in Washington, Canada, Cincinnati, and New York.
Muchova’s next event is currently scheduled to be the Canadian Open, which starts on August 2.
The Wimbledon final trend continues
Linda Noskova has extended an interesting Wimbledon final statistic.
Following her victory, 17 of the last 18 Wimbledon Ladies Singles finals have been won by the player who has captured the opening set [reported by OptaAce].
Only Elena Rybakina has bucked that trend, fighting back from a set down in the 2022 Wimbledon final to defeat Ons Jabeur 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Noskova is also only the third player in the Open Era to win the Women’s Singles title in Wimbledon after saving match points.
The only other players to do so were Venus Williams in 2005 and Serena Williams in 2009.
Noskova saved a match point in her third round match against Sorana Cirstea before winning 2-6, 6-3, 7-6.
