Channel 5 host Andrew Callaghan has given an update on the recent lawsuit that threatened his YouTube channel’s future, as fans have now raised close to $2 million for the fight.

Back on July 10, Andrew Callaghan, the host of Channel 5 and All Gas No Brakes, revealed that the YouTube channel’s future was in jeopardy because of a lawsuit.

Callaghan showed that he and the channel had been sued by William Joiner over claims made in Channel 5’s Dear Kelly documentary. The YouTube host admitted that the channel needed more than $800,000 to fight the case, which included allegations of federal wiretapping violations, privacy violations, and other state-law claims.

Since then, fans have poured money into Callaghan’s GoFundMe, raising more than $1.6 million to fight the case, as well as allowing the Channel 5 boss to bring new people on board.

Speaking in an update on July 20, Callaghan thanked fans for their help and noted that Joiner has since updated his lawsuit with additional claims.

“Bill Joiner and his counsel have filed an amended complaint, trying to spin our fundraiser as more performative, sensational dribble designed not to fundraise but to intimidate Mr Joiner into dropping his case against Callaghan, compel his lawyers to drop him as a client and drop the case altogether, and to intimidate witnesses into providing truthful testimony,” he said.

“Obviously, none of that stuff is true. I’ve barely said a word about the federal lawsuit for two years and launched the fundraiser only as a last resort once they refiled in state court.”

The Channel 5 host said that they will be able to move forward with the “best defence available,” as well as paying off the legal debt, and hiring 10 new editors to finish 19 documentaries that need cutting.

“On a personal level, I’m trying to wrap my head around how many people believe in what we’re doing,” he added.
