The Miami Heat may have accidentally leaked LeBron James’ next NBA team after scheduling an introductory press conference on YouTube, and other organizations are now using the mistake to announce fake signings of their own.
James is currently considering his next move after deciding not to return to the Los Angeles Lakers. The four-time NBA champion previously played for Miami between 2010 and 2014, winning two championships with the team.
Speculation over a possible reunion exploded when fans discovered a livestream titled “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference” on the Heat’s official YouTube channel.
The livestream was scheduled for July 27, 2026, but was removed shortly after screenshots began spreading online.
A Heat spokesperson said the link had been mistakenly published while the team’s social media department prepared content in case James eventually decided to return. The organization said there was “currently no validity” to the video.
However, the extremely specific title and date were enough to convince some fans that Miami had accidentally revealed James’ decision before he could announce it himself.
Sports teams troll Miami Heat with fake LeBron announcements
The apparent leak quickly escaped the NBA world as other teams and organizations began recreating Miami’s mistake.
The Winnipeg Jets scheduled their own “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference” for July 27 on YouTube. Its thumbnail showed James wearing a Jets jersey alongside the message, “Don’t upload this yet.”
The Philadelphia Police Department also joined in, sharing a fake YouTube result advertising a “LeBron James Philadelphia Police Department Introductory Press Conference.”
Both posts copied the format of Miami’s original listing, turning the Heat’s apparent announcement into a template for organizations to promote themselves while joining the conversation.
The situation became even more chaotic when fans discovered that Miami was hiring a Director of YouTube Strategy. The listing says the successful candidate will help define what the Heat’s YouTube channel becomes and build new formats designed to reach fans beyond traditional sports content.
However, the vacancy appeared online before the LeBron livestream was published, meaning there is no indication that the Heat began searching for someone because of the mistake.
James has not officially announced where he will play next season. Until he does, Miami’s deleted livestream has given the rest of the sports world an easy way to pretend he is joining them instead.
