The Resident Evil series has gone through several drastic transformations over its lifetime, causing a rift to form between fans of each era that all want different things from the iconic survival horror franchise. Even though Capcom has found some unique ways to satisfy its diverse fanbase with features like offering both third-and first-person perspectives in its newer titles, fans are still concerned about the direction of Resident Evil’s upcoming remakes.
Given that Capcom’s producers have stated the studio is treating remakes with the same care as mainline games, there has been just as much speculation surrounding what the next remake will have in store for fans of the series. Although we’re still a long way off from release, if there’s one thing that everyone in the community can seem to agree on, it’s that this iconic Resident Evil scene absolutely needs to be included in the next remake.
Fans Are United Over This Hilarious Resident Evil Moment
With it growing increasingly inevitable that all the older Resident Evil games will get the remake treatment, fans like LuxerWap on Reddit have been rallying behind preserving the spirit of Resident Evil 5 for its highly-anticipated but unconfirmed remake, particularly when it comes to Chris’ legendary face-off with a rather large rock.
LuxerWap is far from the only fan who thinks the boulder-punching quick time event is “too iconic” to remove either, as hundreds of other fans joined in to support sticking to the tone that makes Resident Evil 5 so iconic to this day, with some even joking that if anything, they “want him to punch a bigger rock” this time around.
With that main concern being that modern Resident Evil remakes “go for more realism,” there’s been a growing concern that we might see more goofy moments getting cut, such as Barry’s Jill sandwich line from the original Resident Evil, which could still be up in the air considering Capcom reportedly isn’t even sure how to adapt RE5 just yet.
Thankfully, fans have been quick to point out that they “don’t think Capcom is toning anything down” if the latest Resident Evil Requiem and its over-the-top combat and quips are anything to go by, but also that Capcom has directly acknowledged Chris’ famous feat on more than one occasion.
Both in Resident Evil Village, where “Heisenberg refers to Chris as ‘that boulder-punching asshole'” and the most recent Resident Evil Veronica reveal trailer where an old lady says, “It’s like a boulder rolled through here,” the developers at Capcom seem more than aware of how iconic a scene Chris quick time effect is within the community.
Although there have still been some concerns considering that both these lines were only present in the English localization and not the original Japanese dub, where Chris is instead referred to as a “gorilla”. While there is always a chance we won’t get a one-to-one recreation of the quick time event rather than a simple reference, that doesn’t mean hopes aren’t high of the scene being adapted in Resident Evil 5’s eventual remake.
