A consortium spearheaded by Amit Bhatia, featuring Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, are nearing an agreement to acquire a stake in Liverpool. The ownership share is reported to be ‘roughly one third.’
The Reds’ existing owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), acknowledged that a group has made an approach to purchase a stake in the club, overseen by Bhatia. A statement read: “An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.”

According to Sky News, the transaction would see Mr Bezos enter an investor group that also features Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co‐founder. The syndicate is led by Bhatia, the son‐in‐law of steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal and, until recently, a stakeholder in EFL Championship team Queens Park Rangers, as per The Mirror.

The report indicates that FSG, the club’s majority owner since 2010, is gearing up to unveil a transaction ‘as soon as this week.’ While an announcement is anticipated in the coming days, it’s also noted the schedule could ‘slip into next week.’
If finalized, the arrangement would see a trio of the world’s wealthiest individuals become co‐owners of the Reds – one of English soccer’s most decorated clubs.

Mr Bezos’ fortune is estimated by Forbes at over $280 billion (£207 billion), with Mr Saverin believed to be worth more than $32 billion (£23 billion). With that, the trio’s investment would reportedly value Liverpool at around $6 billion (£4 billion), marking it as one of the most lucrative transactions in the sport’s history.
American ownership has expanded dramatically throughout the Premier League, with half of the division’s 20 clubs now primarily controlled by U.S.-based investors.

Mr Bezos has previously considered major sporting acquisitions, particularly in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, but eventually decided against pursuing either opportunity.

Meanwhile, Mr Saverin was involved in a consortium that launched an unsuccessful takeover bid for Chelsea during the 2022 sale process initiated by Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
As for FSG, who also own MLB powerhouse the Boston Red Sox, they have overseen Liverpool since 2010, having saved the club from the edge of administration under previous American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
On the field, Liverpool last secured the Premier League championship in 2024/25 but now confront a period of rebuilding after the dismissal of head coach Arne Slot and the exit of Mohamed Salah. Thus far this summer, the Reds have brought in Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, and Ronald Araujo on loan.
Bradley Barcola has also been identified as a key attacking objective, with Paris Saint-Germain willing to part with the Frenchman. Nevertheless, negotiations have yet to yield a resolution.
