Bianca Andreescu received a warm welcome at the Canadian Open, although the home favorite was unable to enjoy a lengthy stay in Toronto.
Receiving a wildcard for her home tournament, Andreescu lost 5-7, 4-6 to Nikola Bartunkova in her opening match.
She also played doubles with compatriot Kayla Cross at the Canadian Open, but they lost their opener to Ulrikke Eikeri and Quinn Gleason.
Despite her results, 2019 US Open champion Andreescu loved her time at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto.

Sharing images of her time at the event, Andreescu posted on her Instagram: “Toronto, you always remind me why I love doing this.
“Playing at home, feeling your energy, seeing so many familiar faces in the crowd… it means more than I can really put into words. I genuinely loved being out there with you guys.
“Thank you for continuing to show up for me through every chapter of this crazy ride. I’ll keep giving everything I have and trusting where this journey is taking me. I love you all!
“Shoutout to my girl [Kayla Cross], love playing with you! Our laughs, my imaginary overheads and your volleys on court are unmatched.”
It’s a heartfelt message from Andreescu, who rapidly turns her focus to qualifying for the Cincinnati Open, where she starts against Wang Xiyu.

Andreescu enjoyed a stunning rise on the WTA Tour, with the Canadian particularly shining in the 2019 season, when she won all three of her career titles to date.
She lifted the trophies at Indian Wells and Toronto, before repeating those heroics at the US Open at the age of just 19.
