FURIA are through to the semi-finals of Esports World Cup over G2, picking up two stomps on Ancient (13-3) and Dust2 (13-4) either side of a heavy defeat on Anubis (3-13).
The veto FURIA opted for was not without risk, picking Anubis and letting through Ancient, maps they are not huge fans of, but they did enough to justify the decision. Their Ancient was fantastic, a real boon if that can become a strong map for them, and they duly sealed the deal with a dominant decider.
It’s back to the drawing board for G2, who will probably be satisfied with a top-eight finish in Artem “r1nkle” Moroz’s second event. The aforementioned AWPer was pretty anonymous throughout this game, but G2 have time before they will be expected to hit top gear with their new lineup.
G2 opted for a bit of a punish pick with Ancient, a map FURIA have barely played in 2026, but it couldn’t have backfired more spectacularly. Bar clutches from Guy “NertZ” Iluz and Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko G2 got absolutely nothing going in either half, finding themselves utterly outclassed by a potent FURIA performance across the board.
Masterful molodoy 1v2 continues FURIA’s domination
The script was flipped dramatically on Anubis, G2 roaring back to life on their opponent’s map pick to rescue their chances in the series, excellent mid rounding from Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač and a huge uptick in individual performances securing a stomp and sending the game to a decider.
On Dust2 FURIA justified their slightly risky veto, crushing G2 with ease to secure their semi-final berth. Danil “molodoy” Golubenko enjoyed a field day whilst Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo out called his counterpart throughout, resulting in one of FURIA’s best displays in some time and a comfortable series win.
