Of the top stars in women’s tennis, Coco Gauff has certainly been the most consistent during the North American hard-court swing.
The American reached the semifinals of the Canadian Open before claiming her fourth WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati.
How far will Coco Gauff go at the US Open?
With world number one Aryna Sabalenka out of form at the moment, there is an opportunity for Gauff to win her third Grand Slam title at the US Open.
Despite her recent performances, former British player Greg Rusedski does not think the 22-year-old is the favourite to go all the way in New York.

Speaking in an episode of ‘Off Court with Greg‘, Rusedski said: “Well, she’s peaking at the right time. You know, that’s her first title of the year. Can you believe that? Coco Gauff, first title of the year, leading into the final Slam with her pedigree.
You know, she’s made an overhaul of her serve. It’s taken time. It’s starting to fall into place.
It’s all to do with the way the footwork moves into the serve. The forehand looked better. And she kind of dominated for a set and a bit against Pegula before it got a little bit iffy there, but found a way to go through the line.
She is the third favourite for the title. She has won the US Open. That was her first Slam she won.

So she’s just getting there at the right moment. As you said, Sabalenka doesn’t have any form, even though she is the favourite by the bookies to win the title. So this US Open is like all the majors.
Just juggle the balls. Are we going to have a fourth different winner in the men’s? Are we going to have a fourth different woman in the women’s game win the last Slam of the year?
So all these question marks are happening, but good to see Coco back. Good to see Shontek back as well, who won a title. And Eala won a title.

Coco Gauff’s record at the US Open over the years
Gauff made her US Open debut back in 2019 at the age of 15 and earned two wins before losing in the third round to Naomi Osaka.
She suffered early exits in her next two campaigns at the hard-court major, falling in round one in 2020 and the second round in 2021.
In 2022, the same year she reached the Roland Garros final for the first time, Gauff made the quarterfinals of the US Open, beating Madison Keys en route.
But in 2023, Gauff finally hoisted her first major trophy at the US Open, after a remarkable campaign.
During that run, Gauff beat the likes of Mirra Andreeva, Caroline Wozniacki, Karolina Muchova and finally Sabalenka to win the tournament.
At 19, she was the first American teenager since Serena Williams in 1999 to win the US Open title.
Since then, Gauff has recorded back-to-back fourth-round exits, having lost to Emma Navarro in 2024 and Osaka in 2025.
