The Diablo titles are always some of the more mature MMOs on the market, but if you’re looking for a bit of a difficulty spike and bigger focus on combat over skill-building, then Diablo 4 might be a bit more up your alley than some of the more cartoonish entries in our list.
You’ll spend the early game focusing on bulking up your gear, unlocking waypoints after clearing Strongholds, fighting your way through the main quest, and more. Another of the older MMOs that’s still going strong in 2026 is RuneScape, with the iconic web-based title available in all kinds of new and modernized ways if you’d rather, or a classic version that allows you to enjoy the game as it was back in the day.
You’ll build up all kinds of skills in RuneScape, with skills for everything from Fishing to Necromancy on the menu, not to mention how many quests there are to complete as you explore the overworld.
There are spinoff titles available for home consoles, but the core MMO gameplay of RuneScape can only be enjoyed on a computer or mobile device.
