Daniil Donchenko has been surging since becoming TUF champion, and he feels like his next octagon outing will vault him into the rankings hierarchy. Donchenko prepares to take on Punahele Soriano at UFC Paris on Saturday, September 5th. Soriano is someone who has big name value and has fought some demonstrably talented guys in the promotion, with an impressive winning streak behind him as his fight in France looms.
With Soriano being someone who has wins over ranked contenders, when asked for his thoughts on his opponent’s better skill set pieces and what this fight means to him at this point in his career, Donchenko said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“The fighter who will finish this fight probably will go for ranking like top 15. Probably if, for example, if it will be nice, really nice finish, me or him can be top 15, I guess. If not, definitely we will have someone from top 15 next. Yeah, he was on this streak. He beat Uros Medic who is top 10, I guess, now. He have four fight win streak but three of them is by decision. If he cannot touch in the first round, he cannot knock people out in second or third round. It’s what I saw. He’s really strong. He’s really tough.”
Daniil Donchenko says Punahele Soriano ” is stronger than all my opponents before,” but is “ready for everything” at UFC Paris
Further delving into the machinations of this matchup set to kick off in the coming days, Daniil Donchenko continued [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“[Punahele Soriano] don’t scare to fight. He always will try to fight until the end. A lot of experience [this] guy [has], but he have kind of good wrestling. Not that much control, but he have wrestling. I think that this kind of fighter is stronger than all my opponents before. In general because of experience and all these things. But I think I will not be surprised during this fight. I [am] ready for everything what he can offer. I’m ready for his wrestling, ready for his striking and that’s it.”
