It’s a brutal life in Wardogs. Whether you’re playing as a frontline medic, helicopter pilot, builder, or grunt on the battlefield, everything has a price, and you can quickly go broke if things take a turn for the worse. Being able to make it back what you’ve lost is critical to thriving — especially as you start unlocking progressively more expensive and stronger gear.
If you’re struggling to make some cash, here is everything you need to know about Wardogs’ money system and some ways you can quickly acquire some cash to spend in-match.
How Does Money Work
Cash is the lifeblood of Wardogs. Almost every positive action that benefits your team will earn some amount of money, while you lose money from purchasing things like weapons, equipment, vehicles, ammo, etc from vendors. Additionally, you will also need to make a high-priced, one-time purchases to unlock new items that become available as you level up.
In-game, you can see your total amount of cash available in the top right corner of your screen. Next to it will be another amount, which showcases how much money you’ve either lost or gained in that match. If the arrows beside this number are red, it indicates how far in the hole you are for this life. If they are green, that’s how much profit you have made after you’ve spawned.
Ideally, you will always want to net some semblance of a profit each time you spawn in, but this is not always possible. Dying (and not being resurrected by your teammates) means you will respawn with nothing and need to re-buy your entire loadout again. Finally, you can exchange money for gold bars. These bars are used to purchase cosmetics for your guns and character, so if you ever find yourself with too much money weighing down your tactical vest, consider picking up some new flashy skins.
How To Get Money Quickly
When it comes to actually making money, there are a ton of ways to get some cash into your pocket. However, not all methods are created equal, as not everyone can be a killing machine and reliably take down enough players every life to get yourself out of the red. This, of course, is one of the best ways to make money; it’s not the easiest, since it’s reliant on your own skill.
So if you want to make some money without putting yourself at high risk, here are some methods I recommend:
- Building defenses at the FOB
- Spotting targets with binoculars/monoculars
- Transporting players or supplies from the spawn to the battlefield
- Reviving teammates
Perhaps my favorite way to quickly start a match with a ton of extra money is to play the Support role. When you begin a game, go to the vendor, purchase a FOB (Forward Operating Base), and load up into a transport helicopter. Upon arriving at your team’s drill site, place down the FOB, grab the free hammer out of the FOB, and begin setting up defenses such as walls, doors, gates, and sandbags.
You won’t have access to a ton of defensive options early, but placing and building defenses will net you some money. Each structure doesn’t reward a ton of money by itself, but given you need to wall in your entire FOB, set up additional defenses, cover, and even emplacements, that cash can quickly accumulate into the thousands.
Also, don’t be afraid to help others who are also building get their defenses finished. This is a team game, and you’ll earn money by assisting and building any structures they have set down as well! If you’re new to the game and still getting your bearings, pick up a hammer and start building!
Alternatively, another popular and efficient method for getting money is to be a spotter for your team. Purchasing items such as a monocular allows you to spot and mark enemy players or vehicles for them. You will first get some cash for just spotting the target, but if the enemy dies while still under your spot, then you make a few hundred dollars for your trouble!
Going to any high-traffic area where there’s a lot of fighting, such as the Hot Zone, and setting up on high ground can really make you a lot of money. So long as your team is killing the people you’ve marked, it’s pretty easy to make several thousand dollars in a short amount of time. Just make sure not to expose yourself too much, as you can easily be killed while looking through your binoculars since your vision is highly limited.
For all my fellow Battlefield players out there, fear not, because being the team medic is a surprisingly lucrative line of work. On your map, whenever someone dies, you will see a circle with a pulse. This icon means that a person is down but is waiting to be revived by a friendly player. Picking someone up (and healing them with medical items such as bandages or first aid kits) will also net you a nice amount of money.
Finally, being a glorified Uber driver for your team and their supplies is one of the best ways to make a lot of cash if you’re willing to learn how to use the game’s vehicles. Not only will you get money for transporting a player from the base to the main battlefield, but you get additional cash for every person that player kills once they’ve landed.
This means that a full helicopter can make you thousands of dollars if even half of that group are competent players. You can also just transport supplies from the base to the FOB via a truck, car, or helicopter. While boring, it’s a vital part of the game that will keep your base sustained, its drill, and make you quite a nice profit in return.
Finally, you can sell items back to players by purchasing a ton of critical items like bandages or ammo, marking up the price a little, and then dropping them off at the base. Is it a little unethical to extort your team? Sure, but that body armor and sniper rifle aren’t going to buy themselves!
