Quentin Grimes was one of the free agency acquisitions for the LA Lakers during the offseason, and he is now getting to work.
With LeBron James switching from the LA Lakers to the Philadelphia 76ers, Quentin Grimes chose to move in the opposite direction.
Grimes is a former teammate of Luka Doncic from their time at the Dallas Mavericks, with both players traded by Nico Harrison at the same deadline in early 2025.
Now Grimes is busy preparing for the new season, and the Lakers have released a new video clip of the guard putting in the hard graft. He was seen sprinting, lifting weights, and doing shooting drills, getting his reps in at the Lakers’ facility.
Lakers fans are intrigued by the offseason addition of Grimes in a post-LeBron world for the franchise, and reacted in a positive way to the video clip.
One wrote: “Hope QG can find a long term home here, always liked his game.”
Another added: “One of the most underrated players in the league. What a great signing.”
“The way he’s moving in this clip already looks smoother than half the roster last season. expecting big things from him in that lineup,” a third added.
Another wrote simply, “Excited about him,” and a fifth added optimistically, “He about to have his best season in his career.”
“Grimes will be the X factor for the Lakers this season,” another wrote.
With it not guaranteed that Grimes will be a starter, another fan sees a positive outcome for Grimes regardless: “The next Sixth Man of the Year will be from the Lakers.”
Grimes played 75 regular season games for the Philadelphia 76ers last season but only started 19.
The Lakers need to figure out whether there is a way to fit him in the same lineup as Doncic and Austin Reaves – but he certainly alleviates some pressure on them.
With Doncic missing time due to injuries including the Lakers’ playoff run, Grimes could prove to be a valuable pickup.
