Frank Vogel says Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg has ‘something that coaches dream of’

The Warriors have formally confirmed the appointment of Frank Vogel as associate coach, after an agreement was earlier struck in July. Vogel will specifically work to improve the team’s defense to support Steve Kerr.

Vogel was previously working with the Dallas Mavericks and has head coach experience with the LA Lakers, leading them to win the NBA title in 2020.

The new arrival in the Bay has already set his sights on working with Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, impressed by the tools he has at his disposal.

Frank Vogel excited by Yaxel Lendeborg

The Warriors used the 11th pick in the NBA Draft to select Yaxel Lendeborg. He is already looking like a shrewd selection, after being named Summer League MVP.

New coach Frank Vogel is excited to work with him. He told Mercury News that he believes Lendeborg will be ‘a dream’ to coach.

Vogel explained: “There’s very little forcing of offense in Yaxel’s game, you know, and that’s something that you dream of as a coach.

“You want players that are going to play the right way each time down.”

Vogel separately told the San Francisco Chronicle that the Warriors need to ‘keep their head above water’ until Jimmy Butler returns from his torn ACL in the new year.

He warned that opponents and the media will be taking a risk by writing off a team boasting Steph Curry and Draymond Green.

Lendeborg is an unknown factor who could add extra juice to the Warriors this season, and they desperately need him to be a success.

The Warriors’ draft picks have infamously failed to work out in recent seasons, and Vogel will have a big task helping Lendeborg prove he is ready to play both ends of the floor and earn substantial minutes this season.
