Alexander Zverev heads into this year’s Laver Cup in the form of his life, having finally ended that career-long wait for a Grand Slam title.
And, rather ironically given the host city of this year’s event, just like London buses, two came along at once: Roland Garros and the US Open in a matter of months.
He, alongside Carlos Alcaraz, will spearhead a star-studded Team Europe line-up that will be heavy favourites.
However, Andre Agassi remains insistent that his team will thrive as underdogs.
Speaking on the live Served with Andy Roddick podcast earlier today, he responded confidently when asked how he plans to neutralise the threat that these two European superstars pose.
Andre Agassi backs Alexander Zverev to struggle on the Laver Cup courts
Agassi began by focusing on the German, who Alcaraz actually named as the best player in the world recently.
The American admitted: “Yeah, yeah, well, I assure you, winning is addicting, and, you know, Sascha Zverev, he’s done a lot of that this year.

“But with that being said, he’s a big guy. You know, he’s 6’6. He serves through the court. It’s hard to go through this court. Last year, he played De Minaur. A stat you could probably pull up. I kind of stick with numbers for some reason, it just sticks in my craw. He aced De Minaur once the whole match. So it gives you an idea of how slow the court is.
“Big guys don’t like the ball down there, so there’s ways to kind of find some inroads there.”
Then, turning his attention to Alcaraz, Agassi added: “You got Alcaraz, who, you know, listen, the game missed him; I missed him. He’s awesome for our sport.
“I’ve literally, for the last four months, I’ve been praying that his wrist becomes 100% healthy sometime in the month of October [laughs].”

It’s ironic to see Agassi make such a claim about Alexander Zverev, who has historically been one of the best performers at this event.
After all, he has played the tournament more than any other, featuring seven times since its inception in 2017.
As such, the 28-year-old has amassed the most singles wins of anyone else, as well as more singles points won and more points won overall than any other.
His 9-7 total record at the Laver Cup gives him a 56% win rate.
