Amanda Anisimova has decided to end her 2026 season as she looks to “take care” of a wrist injury.
Anisimova has announced the decision following back-to-back withdrawals from WTA tournaments. She decided against defending her China Open title because of the injury, which followed her withdrawal from the Singapore Open. The American’s last match arrived at the US Open, where she was beaten by Anastasia Potapova in the third round.
The 25-year-old has now released a statement regarding her left wrist injury, which has unfortunately forced her to close the curtain on her latest campaign. She’ll end it with a 22-12 record, with zero WTA titles won.

Posting a brief update on her Instagram, Anisimova wrote: “Hi everyone, I will be wrapping up my season for the year. I sustained a wrist injury again, that I need to take care of. Time to get healthy, reset, and see you all in 2027.”
The well-wishes have since flowed in for Anisimova, with her fellow players Marta Kostyuk and Priscilla Hon both commenting. The former wrote: “Speedy recovery!!” and the latter said: “Love you girl”.
It’s a real shame for the world number 11, who has experienced quite the drop-off this season, with her injury playing a major role. She started the season as world number three, and failed to reach a single final. Just one semifinal appearance came at Dubai.
In stark contrast, Anisimova reached two Grand Slam finals in 2025 and won two WTA 1000 titles, as well as breaking the WTA top 10 for the first time. She also made her debut at the WTA Finals, claiming two wins.
But the American certainly has what it takes to bounce back, as she has already proven during her fantastic career. With very little to play for between now and the end of the season, she’s made a smart choice, and one that should help her immediately hit the ground running in 2027.
Anisimova is certainly not the only player to make such a decision, with ATP star Jack Draper having ended his 2026 season early too. Like his WTA counterpart, he has been heavily impacted by injury in recent times, and will hopefully be able to make a full recovery in time for the start of the new season.
