G2 officially announce SunPayus’ departure amidst reports linking the Spaniard with FUT.
G2 have announced the departure of Álvaro “SunPayus” García, who has spent the last three months on the bench after he was replaced by Artem “r1nkle” Moroz in June.
No mention was made of SunPayus’ situation moving forward, but it is widely expected that he will join FUT in place of much-maligned AWPer Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov.

The news brings to an end SunPayus’s 14-month stint in G2, the Spaniard having joined in July 2025 as the long-term replacement for Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov after the latter transferred to Falcons.
There were promising early signs for G2 after SunPayus’ arrival as the European combine won BLAST Open London 2025 after a mere month with their new AWPer, however consistent success was hard to come by and the team often fell just short of playoffs or in the opening match of the playoffs.
SunPayus found himself the target of community criticism despite being statistically one of the more solid AWPers outside of the absolute elite names like m0NESY and Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, and G2 eventually opted to bench the 27-year-old in order to bring a more aggressive element into the side in the form of r1nkle.

” I think he can still bring the right things to the right team,” G2 coach Eetu “sAw” Saha said of SunPayus soon after his benching. “I think for us we need something more aggressive because we have also other players who are a bit more on the passive side.”
