Alexander Zverev spent time with Rafael Jodar at the Laver Cup as Team Europe defeated Team World 13-5 in London.
They combined for six of Team Europe’s 13 points (Zverev – 5, Jodar – 1), delivering the goods for Yannick Noah at the O2 Arena last weekend. Zverev and Jodar were seen celebrating together after the match, with Jodar drenching the German with champagne in the locker room.
Zverev has now delivered his verdict on Jodar, who is currently ranked 13th, having begun the 2026 season ranked outside the world’s top 100.
Alexander Zverev thinks Rafael Jodar will be ‘unbelievable’ in a couple of years
During an interview with ‘SL Man‘, Zverev shared his thoughts on Jodar, who won his maiden ATP title earlier this season in Morocco.
“I am training with Rafa Jodar. He is a young guy; he is super exciting. I think he is going to be unbelievable in a couple of years time,” he said.
How do you feel about the Laver Cup – is the tournament at all important?
“If he asks me, I will always try to help. If he doesn’t ask me, I don’t want to interfere with what he has. But if somebody asks me, I will always try and help,” Zverev added when asked if he had any advice for the 20-year-old.
Zverev and Jodar met early this year in the French Open quarter-finals. Zverev won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-1, 6-3, en route to his maiden Grand Slam title.
Whether they will play again before the end of the year remains to be seen. They certainly won’t play each other this week, though, with Zverev competing in Beijing while Jodar battles for the title in Tokyo.
Zverev will begin his China Open campaign on Thursday, October 1, against Cameron Norrie, before Jodar takes on Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in the first round of the Japan Open.
Alexander Zverev shares his greatest Laver Cup memories
Zverev was also asked to share his favourite Laver Cup memories, having played the event more times than anyone else (7) since the first edition in 2017.
“For me, in 2018 and 2019, each year I won the deciding match to clinch the Laver Cup. That was very, very special. In Geneva, I was struggling during the season, and Team Captain Bjorn Borg actually had enough trust in me to play the last match,” he said.
“It was the deciding set, and there was an epic moment where I lost the second set and went to the bathroom, and both Roger and Rafa were following me and pumping me up to play a good third set. That was the most memorable moment for me of the Laver Cup.”
Zverev helped Team Europe defeat Team World in 2018 and 2019, delivering crucial wins against Kevin Anderson in Chicago and Milos Raonic in Geneva.
