The series began on Inferno and with a lightning-fast 9-3 start for 5star as 29-year-old Dulguun “hoolig4n” Batsaikhan top-fragged in the eventual 13-10 win.
Ancient was back to normal programming, with Astralis back to their usual selves for a smooth 13-5 win fuelled by Victor “Staehr” Staehr’s 4k in the pistol.
But on Cache, it was Astralis’ Ancient that was proved to be unsustainable as both teams battled for control. A big 1v1 for Gerelt-Od “clouden” Jargal at the end of the first half made it 7-5, but Astralis finally earned that control they were looking for with several smart retakes and the CT pistol.
Leading 11-9, everything was set up for the world number 12 to sail into the top eight of the tournament. But 5star had other ideas, as clouden won another 1v1 in round 21 before they broke Astralis’ economy in round 22.
Up 12-11, again 5star were returned to underdog status as Astralis picked up several openers for a 4v2 advantage. But then, Ariunjargal “ariucle” Yadam and Uuganbayar “NEUZ” Nyam-Otgon did the unthinkable by piecing the clutch together and sending the Europeans home early.
