Worlds 2026 is almost here, and 19 teams from six regions are chasing the Summoner’s Cup. The key question is not simply who can win: it is which teams can sustain title-level form and which are most dangerous when the bracket gets messy.

GosuGamers’ four-tier power map puts Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports and T1 in the favorites group, with four contenders, six dark horses and six underdogs behind them. That separation matters: a team capable of springing one upset is not automatically built to survive an entire championship run.

Three favorites, but not three identical cases

Gen.G have the strongest season résumé in this assessment. They won the LCK Cup and Season championship, with disciplined macro, strong laning and control of match pace making them difficult to dislodge. But their Esports World Cup elimination by Dplus KIA is a useful reminder that even the leading favorite has a losing condition.

Hanwha Life bring a different kind of threat: they won MSI 2026 and finished second in the LCK, with the individual firepower and aggressive play to overwhelm opponents. T1, meanwhile, are defending champions chasing a fourth straight Worlds title. Their year has been less convincing, with losses at MSI and the LoL Esports World Cup and a third-place LCK finish, but writing them off based on domestic form alone would be tempting fate. Their LCK form and T1’s recent results give the uneven season more context.

The next tier has plenty of punch, but more questions about consistency. Bilibili Gaming won First Stand and reached the MSI final, yet coordination issues and uneven performances cloud their ceiling. Anyone’s Legend arrive as the LPL’s first seed after beating BLG in the Split 3 final, while G2 Esports have already swept Gen.G at First Stand and eliminated T1 at MSI. For G2, the test is maintaining that level across Worlds, not proving they can produce a giant-killing series.

Dplus KIA may have the loudest claim to promotion. They won the Esports World Cup after beating BLG and Gen.G, swept Karmine Corp 3–0 in the final, then defeated KT Rolster 3–1 to secure their Worlds place. That run makes them a credible title threat, even if GosuGamers places them among the contenders rather than alongside its three favorites.

The dark horses have receipts

The dark-horse label is not code for harmless. Karmine Corp stunned Anyone’s Legend and T1 at the Esports World Cup before losing the final to Dplus 3–0; their later third-place LEC Summer finish, however, leaves a real question about whether that international peak can be repeated. Movistar KOI also closed strongly, sweeping KC 3–0 to reach the LEC final, where G2 took the title.

Team Secret Whales swept all three LCP regional championships and eliminated Top Esports 3–1 at MSI. Their aggression can trouble elite teams, though GosuGamers notes that their macro still needs work. Shanghai Invictus Gaming, after roster changes and a difficult Split 2, beat JD Gaming 3–1 in the Regional Finals. Both have evidence of an upset ceiling; neither gets a free pass on consistency.

North America’s two dark horses arrive with different receipts. Team Liquid Alienware beat LYON 3–1 in the LCS Summer final, while LYON swept G2 3–0 at MSI and took Hanwha Life to five games. Those results make both credible threats, not automatic favorites. The Worlds patch meta could also shape which teams find their footing; comfort and adaptation can turn a close series into a very different beast.

Preparation could redraw the map

The wider field has already delivered surprises, including Western teams beating LCK powerhouses and a less expected Esports World Cup champion. Dplus KIA’s resurgence is striking, but GosuGamers also reports delayed player salaries and an ongoing sale process at the organization. That off-stage uncertainty sits awkwardly beside their strong results, even if it does not erase what they have accomplished in-game.

Top Esports face a more immediate preparation concern. Rookie top laner Cheng “ZUIAN” Zi-Hao had two unsuccessful US visa interviews, so TES prepared veteran Bai “369” Jia-Hao as a possible replacement. The source notes 369’s international experience, but also his extended time away from regular competitive League of Legends. For a team entering Worlds with a potential last-minute change, that is a substantial complication, not a footnote.

The opening Play-In bracket is the first hurdle for teams including Karmine Corp, while the 16-team Swiss Stage awaits the qualifier. The Worlds 2026 Play-In route shows why the road is not the same for every team: one best-of-five double-elimination bracket sends just one team onward.

For now, Gen.G, Hanwha Life and T1 form the clearest favorite tier, with BLG, Anyone’s Legend, G2 and Dplus KIA positioned to make deep runs. KC, Team Secret Whales, Movistar KOI, Invictus Gaming, Team Liquid and LYON have shown they can make a heavyweight sweat. The first Play-In matches begin on October 15, and the opening results will offer the first chance to see which tier survives contact with the tournament.
