Ryan Clark gave Brock Purdy MVP praise on Monday night, then named two quarterbacks he still puts ahead of him. Lamar Jackson wasn’t one of them, and fans wanted to know why.
After the San Francisco 49ers beat the Washington Commanders 23-17 on “Monday Night Football,” Clark wrote that it will be “hard to call Brock Purdy the best quarterback in football” as long as Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are alive. He then added that Purdy is “MVP Purdy right now.”

“I dont see where you’re going with this Lamar has been out for 2 weeks same reason why we don’t hear of Myles Garrett as the best pass rusher in the world,” another fan said.
“ What the fu** has Lamar Jackson done without his stacked lineup? Out of brock purdy and lamar only one has been able to lead his team to wins with or without an OP starting lineup,” another fan said.
“I can understand Patrick Mahomes. But I’ve never seen Josh Allen in the Super Bowl walk off the field in overtime with the lead against Patrick Mahomes,” a third fan said.
Here are more reactions from fans.
“But we can say he is one of the best,” a fan wrote.
“Purdy has been better than Mahomes the past couple years but you’re not supposed to say that out loud,” another fan said.

Ryan Clark’s past takes on Purdy

This isn’t the first time Ryan Clark’s view of Purdy has drawn attention. In January 2024 on ESPN’s “First Take,” Clark said the hardest part of that season was pretending Purdy belonged in the same discussions as Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.
He called Purdy a fine player who runs Kyle Shanahan’s offense efficiently but doesn’t elevate his teammates. He made the remarks the Monday after divisional-round weekend.
Months earlier, on the same show, Clark answered Shannon Sharpe’s claim that Purdy was a product of Shanahan’s system.
