Conor McGregor has responded amid Canelo Alvarez’s victory over Christian Mbilli this past Saturday.
Alvarez reclaimed the WBC super middleweight title after defeating Mbilli via unanimous decision in Riyadh. Rather than focus on Alvarez’s ability to still compete at an elite level, McGregor turned his attention to sales and attendance. The “Notorious” one questioned just how successful the Alvarez vs. Mbilli event was, and he promised to set new records when he returns to the octagon in 2027.
“How many views did the Canelo fight get? How many in attendance? Gate? Man I outdo ALL of these people in sales,” McGregor wrote on X. “Majorly. EVERY SINGLE ONE. With ease. Maybe even combined. I don’t even be trying. I was on the same time as the World Cup semi final and still done all them numbers in that last bullshit that I’ve to sit with for another few months before I return.
“I’m going to actually try to sell the fight for my next one. My final fight. See what numbers I can generate. Keep outdoing my own records.”
Some X users were not impressed by McGregor’s banter given Alvarez’s success and activity rate compared to McGregor’s over the past few years.
“Canelo has been active year in and year out,” Gabriel & Co. wrote. “You tease a fight every leap year. People tune in out of pure shock that u might actually make the walk. It’s a façade, and nobody forgot that u scammed millions of people in cahoots with Polymarket earlier this year. Dirtbag!”
McGregor’s attempted comeback at UFC 329 back in July ended in disappointment after he suffered injuries to his ACL and meniscus. The rematch with Max Holloway barely made it past the one-minute mark, and many are questioning McGregor’s future despite his vow to return stronger than ever for at least “one final dance.”
