Marathon is free-to-play until June 9, and will be discounted if you want to pick it up for good.
This was just announced at today’s State of Play, giving us a new trailer for Season 2 of Marathon. To mark the start of the new season, you can pick up Marathon for free until this time next week, and buy it outright at 30 percent off until June 16.
Marathon Is Going Free To Play For A Week, But That Wasn’t Enough To Please State Of Play Viewers
Throughout the State of Play, the chat has been flooded with demands for Destiny 3. This comes after Bungie revealed that it was ceasing new content updates for Destiny 2, with no mention of a new game being in the works.
It has since been reported that new ideas for Destiny are being brainstormed, but nothing is in active development right now. In fact, it’s claimed that the devs are bracing for layoffs, as Bungie focuses on Marathon and other new projects.

Bungie Reportedly Considered Relaunching Destiny 2 As Destiny Infinity, Rather Than Developing A Sequel
Bungie reportedly pitched a Destiny 2 relaunch, but it was also deemed too expensive.
Unfortunately, the fact that Marathon is still early on in its lifecycle (and seemingly struggling to build its own playerbase) means that many are blaming it for the Destiny series being put on ice. That’s quite a hurdle for the live service to get over, hence the decision to go free to play for the week, alongside this discount.
At any rate, Season 2 of Marathon kicked off earlier today. It remains to be seen if it can make up for the game’s rocky start – and if Bungie can win everyone back after halting Destiny’s development.
