A company in Canada sponsored a Guinness World Records attempt to organise the world’s largest game of foosball, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation partnered with Ontario Soccer, an organization that supports players, coaches, and referees in the province, promotes the growth of the sport, and instils good sportsmanship within communities.
The company pledged to make a donation to Ontario Soccer in order to fund mentorship and funding for 12,000 additional coaches and referees. The pledge was made at an event that saw a vast number of people turn out to attempt the world record for largest game of table-top game foosball.
254 participants played in the record attempt
Despite it being a rainy day, the live drumline, DJ, and cheers from fans, ensured that everyone stuck it out on the custom-built course. The game itself was a high-scoring one, and players said that the live commentators reporting on the match made it more exciting and competitive.
When the game was finished, the record was certified by the Guinness World Records, which confirmed that the 254 participants involved in the match had ensured they were victorious in their attempt.
Stan Cho, the Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, commented on the importance of the event to Canada’s role as a host nation for the World Cup.
“This summer, we’ll be welcoming fans from around the world to experience the very best of soccer here in Ontario,” said Cho. “The Guinness World Records attempt is the perfect way to kick off the excitement and show the world just how passionate Ontarians are about the beautiful game.”
