A lawsuit was filed by two Virginia residents to prevent UFC Freedom 250 at the White House from happening as they argued the government failed to get proper approval from Congress to construct the massive $60-million temporary arena, known as “The Claw,” on federal grounds.
They also argued that the agencies failed to conduct a mandatory environmental review before allowing heavy construction on the South Lawn and characterized the fight card as a deeply corrupt use of a federal monument for private gain, noting President Donald Trump’s financial ties to the UFC’s parent company
The lawsuit requested a temporary restraining order, which would’ve prevented UFC Freedom 250 form happening.
U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta firmly denied the TRO.
“Because Plaintiffs fail to establish both a substantial likelihood of standing and irreparable harm, and because the equities and public interest weigh against emergency relief, Plaintiffs’ Emergency Application for a Temporary Restraining Order or, in the Alternative, an Expedited Preliminary Injunction, ECF No. 3, is denied.”
