The dust has now settled on Alexander Zverev’s memorable French Open triumph, with the German having moved on to another event.

Zverev has committed to both singles and doubles at the Terra Wortmann Open, which is now underway in Germany.

It represents his first tournament since the French Open in Paris, where Zverev claimed his maiden Grand Slam title.

He had lost his previous three Grand Slam finals, but was able to defeat Flavio Cobolli in Paris to finally end that constant heartache.

And it is a success that his ATP rival Nick Kyrgios has now reacted to, with the Australian also in action this week at Halle, again in singles and doubles.

Prove me wrong – Alexander Zverev will win multiple Grand Slam titles now

He’s finally got his first!

Having come through alongside Zverev, Kyrgios was asked if he felt any form of jealousy after his Grand Slam title, and indeed how important it feels for the top of men’s tennis.

Kyrgios told Tennis TV: “Yeah look, I’m the least jealous person ever. So when I see any of my peers winning… everyone can eat, there’s plenty of room for everyone to have success in this world.

“And I’ve realized that I’ve had more success than most athletes in any sport and in any space. So I’m confident enough to know when it was my time and humble enough to realize that it can be someone else’s.

“And to see Sascha finally get over that hump… he’s been one of our most consistent players on tour now for the last 10 years, barring that disgusting injury he had that he bounced back from.

“People forget… to 99% of players that’s a career-ending injury. They could have been content with that career, and he could have come back, but obviously not had the hunger to reach that level again.

“And come back and overcome it and actually be a better player is quite scary to me. The obsession and the diligence that takes is quite insane.

“I saw him briefly in the cafe this morning, just gave him a thumbs up. He knows, I’ve commented on it over the last week when I did interviews, but I’m super happy for him.

“I think he’s dealt with a lot of adversity, and he’s one of the players that does cop a lot of doubters and haters.

“I saw this ridiculous video yesterday saying the lost generation, the one that’s been dogged by the Big Three, and then getting dogged by Jannik [Sinner] and [Carlos] Alcaraz. But that’s not a nice place and nice thing to hear.

“So for him to bring a Slam for that generation… and I think for himself, I think he’s hungry to win more. I think he has the potential to win more. But again I’m super happy for him. He deserves it.

“He’s one of the players that I think was in the category ‘best to never win one’, and to not be in that is a good feeling. It’s something I probably will never know, but it was a special moment for sure.”

Will Nick Kyrgios receive a Wimbledon wildcard?

Kyrgios is seemingly in the latter stages of his career, which has been severely impacted by various injury problems.

But he is now back on the ATP Tour and looking for further success, having claimed seven titles throughout his roller-coaster career so far.

One peak involved playing on the grass – as he is this week – when he reached the final of Wimbledon in 2022, but lost to Novak Djokovic.

It is the closest he has come to Grand Slam singles success, although he did secure the 2022 Australian Open doubles title alongside compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Now handed a wildcard for Halle, Kyrgios has a hugely difficult opener against third seed Ben Shelton, who only just emerged successful in Stuttgart.

And in Kyrgios’ Halle doubles run with Mattia Bellucci, American duo Ethan Quinn and Learner Tien are up first.

He could well be using the ATP 500 tournament as preparation for Wimbledon, although again the world number 899 will need a wildcard to take on the Grand Slam in London.

Whether or not he deserves one for the All England Club is certainly up for debate, but there is no doubting his ability on the surface and indeed the huge crowds that he can attract.
