The US Open is the last remaining Grand Slam of 2026, and fans in New York will be desperate for at least one home champion.
WTA superstar Coco Gauff represents the last American US Open women’s singles champion, claiming the title in 2023.
But American fans must go back 20 years before that for the last men’s singles winner, with Andy Roddick winning the US Open in 2003.
There are just two American players in the ATP top 10 as the tournament draws nearer, while there are three in the WTA top 10, with many more following closely behind.
Which Grand Slam is Jessica Pegula most likely to win?
The top 10 American WTA players as the US Open draws closer
The WTA rankings could, of course, change by the time the US Open arrives, but right now it is Jessica Pegula who leads the way for her nation.
She is the current world number three, and is joined in the top 10 by world number four Coco Gauff and number nine Amanda Anisimova.
And ranked 16th and 23rd respectively, rising star Iva Jovic and experienced ace Madison Keys complete the American top five.
They are followed in the top 10 by Emma Navarro, Ann Li, Hailey Baptiste, McCartney Kessler and Caty McNally.
| Rank | Player |
| 3 | Jessica Pegula |
| 4 | Coco Gauff |
| 9 | Amanda Anisimova |
| 16 | Iva Jovic |
| 23 | Madison Keys |
| 27 | Emma Navarro |
| 32 | Ann Li |
| 34 | Hailey Baptiste |
| 46 | McCartney Kessler |
| 53 | Caty Mcnally |
It is certainly a very strong contingent as the US Open draws nearer, with their ATP counterparts boasting a talented crop of top-class players too.
Who is your pick to win the US Open men’s singles title?
Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz lead American ATP players ahead of the US Open
It has quite simply been far too long since an American man won a Grand Slam, never mind doing so with home advantage at the US Open.
It is indeed Roddick’s success in New York that represents their last success, although the likes of Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz have come close in recent years.
And it is the former who leads the way for his nation in the current ATP rankings in sixth, while the latter is 10th.
| Rank | Player |
| 6 | Ben Shelton |
| 10 | Taylor Fritz |
| 16 | Learner Tien |
| 17 | Frances Tiafoe |
| 24 | Tommy Paul |
| 32 | Brandon Nakashima |
| 44 | Alex Michelsen |
| 45 | Ethan Quinn |
| 64 | Sebastian Korda |
| 73 | Zachary Svajda |
Learner Tien and Frances Tiafoe are not far behind, with young stars Ethan Quinn and Alex Michelsen making waves further back.
Many Americans now have the chance to improve their rankings in the North American hard-court swing, which comprises several events that build up to the US Open.
