Alex Eala’s next match said to be ‘a great learning test’
Eala will face a tough assignment in Anisimova next, who reached the final of the US Open last year.
In a post on X, Serena Williams’ former coach, Rick Macci, said: “Eala versus Anisimova will give everybody a snapshot in real time of the Philippine machine and her movement and defence.
“For her to climb that mountain top, the power players with clean, lethal early strikes like her are a great learning test for sure.
“When Alex is set on balance and able to hit on the rise, this is when she gets you on a string and usually gets the prize.”
Eala is seeded 17th at the Cincinnati Open and could face Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova in round four if she beats Anisimova.
