Alexandra Eala has enjoyed a stunning summer of tennis thus far, leading many to expect big things from her ahead of the US Open.
This included a title in Washington, which she followed up with a deep run in Toronto.
Sadly, but arguably rather fortuitously, the 21-year-old only made it into the third round of the Cincinnati Open.
This has afforded her some enforced and much-needed rest before heading to New York.
However, without even playing, Alexandra Eala has actually been handed a big boost with the US Open just around the corner.
How Madison Keys’ Cincinnati Open exit actually benefits Alex Eala
Eala is currently occupying a career-high ranking of 18th, and is therefore due to enjoy a best-ever seeding at a Grand Slam in the coming weeks.
However, this new boost is owed to Madison Keys’ shock defeat to Sara Bejlek in last night’s Cincinnati Open quarter-finals.
Are Alex Eala’s fans good for tennis or do they need to behave better?
They have received some backlash for their behaviour during some of her recent matches…
The American, who won the Australian Open in 2025, was the closest competitor in the WTA live rankings still active in an event. So, with her defeat, Eala is now confirmed to retain this spot and therefore be the number 17 seed at the US Open.
However, if Bejlek does the unthinkable and wins the entire event, she will overtake the Filipina superstar. The Czech player will face Coco Gauff next in the semi-finals.
Alex Eala’s incredible summer of tennis ahead of the US Open
With the US Open now closer than ever, it’s worth revisiting Eala’s incredible summer to remember why she is so hotly tipped to shine in New York.
Coming off the back of a career-best run at a Grand Slam, reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon, she followed that up with an outstanding week in Washington.
Who do you think has the best chance of winning the US Open? 🏆
There, she beat stars like Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka, Leylah Fernandez and Jessica Pegula en route to her first-ever WTA Tour-level title.
Eala then followed that up by reaching the fourth round of the Canadian Open, simply running out of steam against Belinda Bencic.
Most recently, the youngster was overpowered by Amanda Anisimova in a three-set epic in the Cincinnati Open third round.
Eala’s popularity is arguably at an all-time high, and her support in New York could be the biggest we have seen yet.
