After the lead actor of Kratos in the live-action God of War series, played by Ryan Hurst, was injured on set, one of the biggest questions among fans was who would be taking up the mantle next. While the actor had previously been in talks over starring in the show after recasting was announced, Dave Buatistia has now been officially pulled onto the project with the lead role of Kratos, as reported by Variety.
Now that Bautista has been brought into the show, production is set to start reshooting all scenes featuring Hurst with Bautista as a replacement in the coming weeks, which is already taking on the ambitious goal of filming both the first and second season of the show back to back.
Everything We Know About The God Of War Show So Far
On top of the new casting announcement, we have already seen several confirmations regarding details about the upcoming two seasons of the God of War live-action series, which started filming this year all the way back in February.
Taking place in the same era as the God of War reboot series, the TV show will follow a similar storyline of Kratos and Atreus going on an adventure to spread the ashes of Kratos’ wife Faye on a mountaintop. Speaking of Atreus, the actor for Kratos’ son is set to remain Callum Vinson, with all the following cast members also going unchanged following the swap to Bautista:

Bautista’s confirmation also comes after the studio faced backlash for even considering the ex-WWE star to take up the role after recasting began, with fans worried about how he would match up to the iconic voice of Christopher Judge and his slimmer appearance in recent films, even with his impressive acting prowess.
While the casting change shouldn’t affect too much of showrunner Ronald D. Moore’s take on the God of War reboot series, aside from a slight filming delay, the series will reportedly be arriving sooner than it would have if the studio had waited for Ryan Hurst’s injuries to heal in 2027, even though the previous star had already filmed several episodes and later appearances.
